La cura dei gioielli Keep Out è oggetto di molte domande all nostro customer service e per questo motivo abbiamo pensato di radunare la nostra esperienza in una miniguida. A molti amanti dei gioielli capita di tenerli in ciotole ed espositori in bella vista. Purtroppo l’aria è nemica dei bijoux, quindi il nostro primo suggerimento è conservarli all’interno delle loro scatoline originali, o in sacchettini da gioielleria, o in cofanetti imbottiti appositi.

I gioielli, analogamente, soffrono il caldo e l’umidità: per questo motivo non vanno tenuti in bagno o vicini ai termosifoni!

L’ideale sarebbe non indossarli nei momenti in cui potrebbero entrare in contatto con sostanze chimiche: detersivi, detergenti, profumi e cosmetici, acqua clorata e acqua salata.

Infine, potresti prevedere una pulizia periodica dei ditali e delle parti metalliche che compongono i gioielli Keep Out seguendo questo breve vademecum!

Acciaio

L’acciaio è un materiale per sua natura resistente e lucido. Nella maggior parte dei casi, basta passarlo delicatamente con un panno inumidito. Per eliminare lo sporco anche più persistente, su può usare un panno in microfibra inumidito con acqua e detersivo per piatti; nei casi di sporco fortemente incrostato, sostituisci il panno in microfibra con uno spazzolino a setole morbide

Risciacqualo e asciugalo prima di riporlo.

Alluminio

Poichè è molto sottile e duttile, l’alluminio è soggetto a deformazione quindi consigliamo di non sottoporlo a troppe sollecitazioni.

L’alluminio può essere pulito con un panno morbido inumidito. Asciugalo prima di riporlo! 

Argento 925 sottoposto a rodiatura

Ti invitiamo a evitare lo sfregamento contro oggetti o superfici che possano graffiarlo.

Per pulirlo, basta passarlo delicatamente con un panno inumidito; se necessario sostituisci il panno in microfibra con uno spazzolino a setole morbide.

Argento 925 galvanizzato o smaltato

Per pulirlo, basta passarlo delicatamente con un panno inumidito; se necessario sostituisci il panno in microfibra con uno spazzolino a setole morbide.

Bronzo e ottone

Per pulire i gioielli in bronzo e ottone  spesso è sufficiente passarli delicatamente con un panno inumidito; nel caso in cui si fossero scuriti, una buona idea è strofinarli delicatamente con acqua e limone.

I gioielli vanno sciacquati e asciugati prima di essere riposti.

Oro 9 kt

L’oro non si ossida ma potrebbe perdere lucentezza: sono i prodotti di bellezza e per la cura della casa i principali responsabili di questa perdita. Ti consigliamo quindi di non far entrare l’oro in contatto con queste sostanze e di pulirlo con acqua detersivo per piatti, utilizzando anche in questo caso uno spazzolino a setole morbide.

Si tratta di materiali piuttosto resistenti che possono essere semplicemente lavati sotto l’acqua corrente.

The care of Keep Out jewels is the subject of many questions to our customer service and for this reason we have decided to collect our experience in a mini guide. Many jewel lovers often keep them in bowls and displays in plain sight. Unfortunately, the air is the enemy of bijoux, so our first suggestion is to store them in their original boxes, or in jewellery bags, or in specific padded boxes.

Jewellery, similarly, suffers from heat and humidity: for this reason, do not keep it in the bathroom or near radiators!

Ideally, they should not be worn when they might come into contact with chemicals: detergents, cleaning products, perfumes and cosmetics, chlorinated water and salt water.

Finally, you may want to periodically clean the thimbles and metal parts that make up the Keep Out jewels by following this short guideline!

Steel

Steel is by its very nature resistant and shiny. In most cases, wipe gently with a damp cloth. To remove even the most persistent dirt, use a microfibre cloth moistened with water and some dish washing soap; in cases of heavily fouled dirt, replace the microfibre cloth with a soft bristle brush.

Rinse and dry it before storing.

Aluminium

Since aluminium is very thin and ductile, it is subject to deformation, so we recommend not to stress it too much.

Aluminium may be cleaned with a soft damp cloth. Dry before storing!

Please avoid rubbing against objects or surfaces that can scratch it. To clean it, wipe it gently with a damp cloth; if necessary, use a soft bristle brush instead of the microfibre cloth.

Bronze and brass jewellery can often be cleaned by wiping them gently with a damp cloth; if they have darkened, a good idea is to gently rub them with water and lemon.

9 kt Gold

Gold does not oxidise, but may lose its brightness: beauty and home care products are mainly responsible for this. We therefore recommend that you do not allow the gold to come into contact with these substances and clean it with dish washing soap and water, again using a soft bristled brush.

Keep Out utilizza soltanto argento puro, uno dei metalli più belli e splendenti. Per migliorarne l’aspetto e la durata, si ricorre a un procedimento chiamato rodiatura.

Che cosa è la rodiatura?

La rodiatura prende il nome da un metallo chiamato rodio: è raro, bianco, molto resistente. Spesso è utilizzato in lega con il platino per aumentare la durezza di quel metallo. Il rodio non è solo molto resistente, ma è utilizzato anche per rendere più lucidi gli altri metalli. 

Il prezzo è però molto costoso: il suo prezzo supera quello del platino e dell’oro.

La rodiatura consiste nella copertura del gioiello con il sottile strato di rodio. Lo spessore minimo dello strato è di 0,1 micron, il massimo di 25 micron. Il rodio è utilizzato spesso per rendere lucido l’oro bianco e, più raramente, l’argento: è, infatti, un procedimento abbastanza costoso. Il metodo per rodiare un gioiello è simile a quello che si utilizza per placcare in oro: è un procedimento galvanico. In pratica, si utilizzano l’elettricità e un bagno in cui si trovano microparticelle di rodio, che ricoprono il metallo del gioiello con un sottilissimo strato. Il risultato è un metallo molto più brillante.

Perché si usa la rodiatura?

La rodiatura è utilizzata per rendere il gioiello lucente, ma anche perché protegge il metallo dalla corrosione e dall’usura, e preserva l’aspetto originale. Infine, il rodio di solito è tollerato anche dalle persone allergiche, per esempio, al nichel che in passato è stato spesso utilizzato in lega con l’oro. La copertura di rodio evita che la pelle sia a contatto con il metallo del gioiello.

Certo, a patto di non essere allergici proprio al rodio…

Come conservare i gioielli sottoposti a rodiatura

Come abbiamo scritto, il processo di rodiatura consiste nella copertura del metallo con una sottile pellicola di rodio. Il rodio è un metallo resistente, certo, ma con il tempo tutto si usura. Per conservare la rodiatura più a lungo, e quindi per mantenere la lucentezza del gioiello, bisogna fare attenzione a non sfregare il metallo contro oggetti che possano graffiarlo. Inoltre, non è consigliabile pulire il metallo con detergenti aggressivi. Meglio un panno molto morbido e semplice acqua, oppure uno spazzolino da denti, a patto che non abbia setole dure. Keep Out uses only pure silver, one of the most beautiful and shining metals. In order to improve its appearance and durability, a process called rhodium plating is used.

What is rhodium plating?

Rhodium plating is named after a metal called rhodium: it is rare, white, very resistant. It is often alloyed with platinum to increase its hardness. Rhodium is not only very resistant, but also used to make other metals more polished.

However, it is very expensive: its price exceeds the price of platinum and gold.

Rhodium plating consists of a thin layer of rhodium covering the jewel. The minimum layer thickness is 0.1 microns, the maximum is 25 microns. Rhodium is often used to make white gold and, more rarely, silver shine: the process is, in fact, quite expensive. The method of rhodium plating is similar to that used for gold plating: it is a galvanic process. In practice, electricity is used in a bath, in which micro particles of rhodium cover the metal of the jewel with a very thin layer. The result is a much brighter metal.

Why do we use rhodium plating?

Rhodium plating is used to make the jewel shiny, but also because it protects the metal from corrosion and wear, and preserves its original appearance. Finally, rhodium is usually tolerated also by people allergic, for example, to nickel, which has often been used in the past alloyed with gold. Rhodium plating prevents skin from touching the jewel metal.

Storing rhodium plated jewels

As we have written, the rhodium plating process consists of covering the metal with a thin rhodium film. Rhodium is a resistant metal, of course, but everything can wear over time. To preserve the rhodium plating for longer, and therefore to maintain the shine of your jewel, care must be taken not to rub the metal against objects that could scratch it. Furthermore, it is not recommended to clean the metal with aggressive cleaning agents. Instead, use a very soft cloth and simple water, or a toothbrush with soft bristles.
